Computer reboots at random
Anyone had this happen to them?
i'm running windows xp pro, amd athlon xp 2000+ processor, 512 mb ram, and over 40 gigs free. Never had this problem before. doesn't make any warning beeps before it happens. screen just goes dark, and the pc reboots. REALLY ANNOYING. any ideas? oh yeah, if it's going to reboot, it usually will do it within the first 10 minutes of the computer being turned on.

check your power supplies voltages.
in the bios check the voltages, 3.3 5 and 12 should be VERY close to the actual values.

megabyte mobo, generic power supply. Not a virus, I have a firewall and virus scanner installed and it's continuously updated. I thought of the processor overheating, but I have a copper heatsink and a high-cfm fan on the processor and I checked, and it's still working. Maybe it's the power supply...?

I need more details. What is the wattage rating of the ps and how many devices do you have connected?
Megabyte mb? I've never heard of megabyte. You're either referring to a gigabyte or some other company rebadged a mb and put their name on it. Either way, I still need some specs on it to help you out. See if you can find the model number/serial to the mb and post it up. Also, what speed is your ram and what configuration are you running it in? i.e 1 pc3200 512 stick of crucial, 2 pc2700 256 sticks of generic, etc.

XP Pro, by default, has "Automatically Restart" checked in System Failure. Just hit win key + pause, go to Advanced, settings under "Startup and Recovery" and uncheck the aforementioned box.
You'll then get a blue screen....
