Default Volvo T3, a bitch to take out, and wastegate help!!

This question is for those who have taken out a turbo from a volvo. As payment for a dpfi to mpfi swap that I'm doing, the guy gave me a Volvo Turbo with the manifold, still connected. I see id had 4 bolts, 12mm and a 12 point socket. I used this, with wd40 and pretty much stripped 2 heads, was able to get 2 loose, but can't get them out because of a flange that keeps 2 bolts held together.

Questions is, are those bolts threaded all the way thru, or only with the turbo? I was planning on somehow grinding or cutting the head of the bolts and sliding the turbo from the manifold.

Also, the internal wastegate flap, is connected to the flange for the downpipe section, has anyone use this flange to make a downpipe, did you weld it to it, or did you find the 3 bolt flange for it.
I will take pic later, my digi cam's batteries are dead right now.

Those turbos are a pain in the *** to seperate from the mani. The couple that I raped,I used chanel lock pliers to get them off couse the bolts striped just like you said.

On those wastegate assemblys, you need the flair end thats on the Volvo down pipe in order to make your own.I guess you could just weld the new pipe to the wastegate assebely but that might be a pain in the ***.The only thing is that the o2 bung sits kind of too far down to re-use it.....I hate those turbos. The saab ones are easier to take off .

Good luck

Thanks
It was free, so I'll try to make it work. I was thinking of going ahead and using an external wastegate and weld an o2 bung on the new downpipe, It's just a bitch to take out. I'll try the lock pliers

I got it out, it was a bitch, I had to take out a stupid flange that held the two bolts on each side together, and found that the head of the bolts were a little deeper under that stupid flange, and just enough to get it to work.

Now ---- the internal wastegate, I'll use an external and get a new flange for the downpipe and make a new one.

Good deal.So the turbo is in good shape? For some reason most the Volvo turbos that I pulled had big, huge cracks on the turbine housing

This thing is mint, it has some old grime and oil, that's it. I'm picking up a rev hard manifold, external wastegated monday, after that all I need is pretty much new charge pipes, the wastegate, and the downpipe.

damn that's a lot.....not really, this is setup #2. We'll see how it works.

What are you planning to do about that stupid countersunk t3-ish flange that those bitches all have?

I took hours of grinding to make it flat!

...good luck!
