Default is this turbo done for?

this turbo has very little shaft play but there is a build up on the intake side. i'm a turbo newb but i'm pretty sure the turbo is in need of a rebuild.

they probably ran it without a filter for a long time and it got dirty. my turbo was like that when i got it. i sandblasted it. soaked it in a 5 gallon bucket of paint thinner for 2 days. that bitch came out clean. pour some motor oil in it and spin it by hand after you clean it. i think it's still good.

^^agreed. If it spins freely but there just seems to be grime in the compresor housing its still good.Hell I just got a t25 that would bind up a little.I took it apart and the turbine had some realy bad builup on it(i dont know why but it did).I cleaned it and now it spins like new.The copressor was spotless though.Sometimes they just get really dirty and just need some TLC

thats a big relief . will soaking it in paint thinner mess anything up or should everything be able to handle it? also what spot should i be worried about seeing oil?

the solvent will remove all the oil; so once youre done you'll need to pour oil through the center section to re lube the bearings.
and you dont want to see oil dribbling out from behing the comrpessor or turbine wheel because that would mean a blown seal

Well you really dont have to dip the whole thing. You can take off both housings. As far as the wheels go,I just use WD40 on those. It sems to break down all the grime on there pretty good.Carb cleaner works good too.

lol, yeah sell it to me for cheap too.

That turbo looks fine. That oil could have been cause by the previous owner hooking up the PCV to the intake side of the tubo. If it doesn't have shaft play I'd say its fine, just get a restrictor if it smokes
