Default More turbo ???'s

I was messing with my WRX TD04 which will go on my 95 Civic JDM D15B. It has 8000 kms(5000 miles) on it and seems to have a bit of shaft play. Is this normal when there is no oil in the centre section? Also, It uses a V-band style clamp from the centre sectin to the hot side, I need to rotate it but it won't budge, any tips? Or I can just leave it and have the turbo sit with the turbo flange down, but I don't know if I'll have enough room in the engine bay for that. Any suggestions?

As far as the shaft play goes,as long as the blades dont touch the housing youll be of.If you can see scareing around the inlet(on th ehousing) and the blades are worn(from hiting th ehousing) the turbo needs a rebuild.

for clocking it,they make pliers for those clips.

hope that helps

You need a huge set of snap ring pliers to clock it. You have to clock it since the oil feed is on the bottom of the turbo. Here's how mine is clocked....

Thanks guys, but it's the hot side I need clocked. I already took apart the snap-ring and clocked the cold side(and drilled a new hole for the small dowel pin) but I need to spin the turbo flange so it's pointing up, not down. The turbo oil infeed is up when the flange is down, It has a V-band type clamp on it which I have removed, but the thing won't budge, I'll post some pics later.
