quarter mile times in a 93 civic with 230k miles
hey everybody whats up..I have a good friend with a 93' honda civic EX coupe 230,000 on the clock. the car has never been worked on other then oil changes, spark plugs, and a clutch at 90k. well my friend drives the hell out of this car and raggs it out bad. well at the track last friday he ran a 16.5 at 80 something MPH. stock. according to specs. i have read this car is supposed to run 16.8-16.9 brand new stock. BTW he ran this with 17's in the back and a car full of junk. how is it possible for this old *** car to run that much better then stock. haha ..maybe it has so much carbon deposits it bumped up the compression. have any of you had experiances like this?

Your friends time may have something to do with the altitude, temerature, track condition, driver, tires, clutch.................. and lots of other things.

his clutch is slippin a little bit, i live in dallas texas and i don't know how good the altitude is, it was 70 something degrees outside, and the track was normal i guess, like it always is.
I have actualy heard of that. I forget who it was, but someone took a bone stock dx with a D15B7 and like 125,000 miles and had it dynoed. It produced 107 horsepower which is about 5 over stock. They thought it was the carbon deposits also. They ran it in the 1/4 but I forget what they ran. It was faster than stock though.
Sport Compact Car's project civic if I remember correctly.

I'm still impressed!
I think I still have that issue somewhere. Its crazy how an old motor with that many miles was actualy faster than a new motor.

old motor can build up compression more because the rings on the pistons are at a perfect shape to the sleeves and create a good compression bump,
i'm not sure about pistons, but this how it goes for rotaries, fresh rebuilt engine will be weak, until 1000 miles copmression will be good and at 4000 miles the engine would be at it greatest compression/power.
