and here goes... how do i get this thing off
? i dont see any bolts that may be holding it on...
i took the bing ring from around the middle off and see what i am guilsing is where the exhaust housing comes apart .... i gave it a fwe light taps with a hammer inbetween the grooves, but it didnt come off so i thought id post some pics and as before i screw something up ... so here are the pics!!

Send me some pics of what you are dealing with to morganf1@aol.com and I'll help you through it. You will not damage your turbo if you are reasonably careful. Your best bet is to go with the turbo you have and use the non-cracked housing just like we talked about.
The guy that made a comment about using the other turbo doens't have a damn clue.
There has to be either bolts, a v-band, or large c-clip holding the turbine housing on. Most of the turbos I have dealt with use bolts.

seriously, you need to beat the ---- out of it. If you have a torch that will help a little. You can also spray some PB break lose on it and let it sit for a while before the beating. But its on there cause of the years of heat. Just take a hammer and go to town. Exhaust housings can usually take a good beating
Nope, that's all there was. It's a v-band clamp connection and you already have it off. All you do at this point is persuade the housing to come off. I would spray all around the connection with PB Blaster or something. Let it soak for a few minutes. It's not gonna hurt anything. The most it will do is smoke when you start up the car. Eventually after spraying it and tapping around the circumference it will come off.
You may have to resort to smacking it a bit hard but please don't beat the hell out of it. Doing that will put the turbine wheel at risk of damage. Remember you want to remove it by pulling it straight off and not cocking it sideways......which is what a hard blow with a mallet may do.
I gotta get back to work. Best of luck!

cool, u guys think the best way to go about it is with a screwdriver between the grove and beat the screwdriver
?
what the hell is pb blaster
? same ---- as screw loose or wd-40

just spray it with some wd40 or pbblaster same crap. let it soak for a while (30 minutes) and start hitting it hard with a hammer in different spots at a time, it will come off. when i took mine off i had to beat it so bad it left hammer marks on it, but it came off in 5-10minutes.
Do not wedge a screwdriver in the groove. You'll ruin it. You have to take it off with a hammer. Heres a writeup on how to rebuild one. It may help you. http://www.2gnt.com/www/corbin/rebuild16g.html
ok .. thanks gusy .. ill try it out soon ... just bare with me .... my car and turbo are not with me here where i live, and oh. work has just decided that they dont think they need to give us any days off, so im in the middle of working 13 straight days!!! ---- THE MAN!!!
