So I understand (for the most part) how chipped ECU's and stand alones (like hondata and zdyne) work. Here's my question:

I know that custom air/fuel and timing maps can be burned on chips, same works for stand alones. If I'm going to get my car dyno tuned, why can't the tuner just create maps in whatever program he chooses and continue to reburn maps for my chipped ECU until we get a good tune? I realize that a system such hondata might be more convenient to tune on, but will it necissarily give me a better tune or more options

My current setup is a nitrous ls/vtec, but in the future I'm looking at supercharging and uping the shot, I'm content with the custom chipped ecu now, but am curious about my future set up.

So what would be the purpose of me purchasing something like Zdyne (I'm obd0) and why do so many people purchase ECU's like this when It would be much cheaper to simply have a custom chip burned?

 

because some people dont like taking risks (pussies) and some people think if it dont cost a lot it no good(ricers)... not the final answer

 

That's what I kinda figured. I mean, I realize having something like Zdyne will allow you to keep adjusting your tune as necessary for future parts and stuff, but I'm not planning on doing much more to the car.

So is there ANY reason I should get something like zdyne (besides convenience) that anyone can bring to my attention? Just trying to get all the details before I make a decision. Anyone?

 

ZDYNE isnt a standalone...

its an over priced $900 Honda ECU modified.
