obd2a = 96-98
obd2b = 99-00

i can verify this i got a 2000 engine for my 1996 and all i had to do was change main engine wiring harness but since your in same gereration of obd2 you will be fine, just check to make sure they didnt cut the harness at all if they did just swap yours on, it only takes a few minutes.
