My friend is thinking about buying a hybrid civic with a JDM b18c and asked me how can he tell if the tranny on that car has LSD?. I told him that if you take the axles out, you should be able to see through the hole without anything obstructing the view. Since we can't pull this other person's car apart and there is no LSD stamp on the tranny, how else can I see if the car has an "open" diffirential?. The guy selling the car wants an extra $400 because he claims it has an LSD.

 

Jack the car up and spin the front wheels by hand, the other one should move exactly the same way and at the same speed.

Only thing I can think of without taking the axle off.

Does the tranny have a Vin plate?

 

No it didn't have one.

 

does it have LSD stamped on the top of the housing?

 

tell him you're taking it for a quick ride.


dump the clutch from about 5000rpm right outside of his driveway. if you pegleg the burnout, kick him in the junk.

 

That doesn't always work. My old DX would light both tires up all the time. Sometimes it was fun putting the 13" steelies on the front boosting 14psi.

is this always true? I was working on my car the other day and had both wheels up and they both spinned in the same direction at the same time. I thought this kinda weird cause I thought they were supposed to spin opposite. I've got the zc tranny, think I've got the lsd? I didn't think so figuring the best 60ft I could pull at the track was a 2.3.

 

pull an axle out and see. usually the importer will see if its a LSD or not seeing there worth $400 more than a stock tranny

 

Guess I'll check it when I replace that clicking axle. :P Actually I'd be happier if it wasn't lsd. If it is an lsd then I really must be a shitty driver.

 

put the car up on jacks, then start the car and put in gear.
Then and only then the wheels will spin in the same direction if it has an LSD.
If you just spin one wheel with the car off the other will will turn opposite.
The way the LSD works, is that will spin both wheels or the other when it senses free spin on one of the wheels. 98ctr
