Default factory honda bearings.....

i went to honda today to get some main and rod bearings my my b16 and he tells me they either have a black, red, yellow, or blue stripe on the back of the bearings and he has to order them by the color of the stripe. wtf? i looked at all the bearings and none of them have a stripe. so my question is how do i get some factory bearings

There are some numbers stamped on the crank or the block girdle or something like that. You have to find the chart and match this number to that one and so forth. It's really a bitch to understand, but I've seen the chart/instructions on the net before.

I hope when you took them out you remembered which order they went in (top/bottom) and what cylinder they were in. Because they all have different colors. I usually just write down what I take out so I know what goes where and just order them up by looking at the sides of the bearing. (yes even the old 200k engines you can still see the colors) Anyhow, lets say you took them out and have no idea how they go back in. There is some letters on the block, like DCCDB

Then you have #'s and letters on the crankshaft

Match with this diagram to get your colors and ask for them at the dealer.

Not to be rude, but before japanese engines were around you could go to the dealer and say "ya I need a set of main/rods bearings standard" and it wouldnt be a problem. I still remember going to the honda dealer years ago and couldnt believe it when they told me there could be 24 different color combinations for main and rod bearings.

Rebuilds are not rocket science..
