I am having a problem with my speedometer, it doesn't work. Sometimes it moves sometimes it doesn't. My tach works just fine, same with everything else. its just the speedometer. It had the same problem before i swapped motor. So im guessiing its not the speed sensor. Maybe it may be the cluster. What do you guys think? Help please.

 

so you have the VSS, and not the cable running from the transmission to the cluster?

has your cluster ever been out? could be a bad/loose connection. this happened to a friend when he changed something in the cluster.. everything stopped working except for the cluster lights. take it out and double check.

otherwise, make sure your wiring isn't grounding anywhere, and make sure your grounds are clean and snug.

Also when your speedometer doesnt work, try engaging your cruise control....this will tell you if its the cluster or the VSS...if cruise control doesnt work, try a new VSS.

If you used the same tranny, the VSS is hooked to it....

When you did the motor swap did you swich the harness/Ecu?....I had this problem in my 00 Dx

okay i'll try that, wats the VSS? is that the speed sensor or somethin? When I did the swap, I kept the body harness on, and use the b18 engine harness. I also changed ecu to b18 ecu, not the original ecu.

Surprised you haven't been knocked for double posting yet, so consider yourself schooled.

 

vss is the socket on your tranny that you have to plug a rather large plug into..

 

Also did you have any extra plungs around your ECU after the swap or did everything get plugged in?

 

I did that cruise control thingy, and the cruise control doesn't work. I guess it my VSS thing. Do any of you know if any other Bseries motor VSS fits the B18B1 tranny, Ls. because its hard finding those anywhere, even at junkyards.

Also for the question one of ya asked, no there was no extra plugs around my ecu.

 

fixed it, i just used my old d16z6 VSS. its the exact same thing.
