how does a block guard go installed? could i just place it between the top of the sleeves and the block without welding it in place?

I have one similar except it also have holes in it AZ,GE,STR, make the same style. the proper way to install a blockguard is to evenly tap it in with a small drift pin/punch,leaving a 1/4 to 3/8 inch of space between the to of the blockguard and the deck, no need to weld it in. then you should hone your cylinders to make sure it even in case the blockguard shift the sleaves, which is not likely if its the proper size for the block. blockguard arent as bad as they make them looks.

thats the kind i have. i figured it would be able to flow more coolant to the head then little baby holes. and i would have a machine shop weld it in place.
