Default how do you gap a spark plug?

ok, decided that maybe some of my engine fual cut offs at high rpms was MAYBE the plugs, so I went to buy some NGK ZFR6J-11 plugs, one step colder, but advanced automotive said they are discontinued, so I bought a plug that was eqivalant, an autolite brand. I put it on my gapping tool, it it's gapped at .40 right now, do I just set it on the .30 and bend the thing down so that it's at .30? is that how you gap spark plugs?

the real way is by using the little tool, but in a nut-shell, you can just bend the tip down till it meets the proper gap. make sure you are really carful, if you bend it to much, then you have to bend it back out, then bend it down again, causing it to become weak at the bending point.

but to anwser your question, yeah, you can just bend it to meet your gap.

you bend the plug down and then keep prying the plug on the gapper til it's infront of whatever you want it gapped at.

Those plugs aren't discontinued. I just bought some the other day from NAPA.

if you look in any haynes or chiltons manual it will have a section in the front of how to do simple ---- like that. Just buy the little round gapping disc and be carefull, use a hard surface (countertop) and get to gappin'

maybe we need an official writeup... I really don't feel like doing the work, maybe sinistercrx might when he gets wind of this thread.

Oh, and I typically use feeler gauges for measuring.. why cause I'm ---- and I have them laying around.
