I know next to nothing about tuning/engine management. I've read the FAQ but I feel like I need to start at a lower level to fully understsand. I know that if I turbo ny car i'll need some sort of engine management. But how can I get my engine to run good and be reliable without buying somthing that will cost an arm and a leg, like a standalone unit. I'm just trying to get some knowledge about this stuff. ANY help will be greatly appreciated

It doesn't sound like you read the FAQ at all.

 

Maybe I made myself sound more stupid than I really am. I read it about 5 or 6 more times and I think im starting to get it. But I still have a lot of questions.

 

First off list your car and what you have so far. Then list what you plan to buy from there or at least a budget.

 

I've got a 95 civic hatch with a d15b7 and a vtec head(not sure which one) I don't have anything for the turbo yet, but i'm planning on a t25 with a homemade minifold. I was thinking about a fmu and missing link. I have 700 dollars for everything, turbo setup, fuel management, everything.

 

FMU and missing link is about the cheapest way you can go (now somebody's going to say CHIP YOUR ECU IT'S FREE but it's really not, you have to pay for the soldering supplies, components, and especially chip burner--not to mention you don't sound like you're ready for that yet). Ultimately, when you're more comfortable, chipping your own ecu might be an option. For $700, you should have no problem putting your setup together. Keep us posted.

EDIT: FMU and missing link should be good for about 6-7 psi, maybe more. I'd say start with that, and when you're ready to really tune, upgrade your fuel management and increase boost pressure.

 

you will need a inline fuel pump w/ the fmu as well.

 

Is a FMU like a regular fuel pressure regulator?

 

The kind of FMU you are wanting is a rising rate. It increases fuel pressure when it see's boost.

 

Thanks for all the help! The only thing is that, whatever I do it needs to be reliable because this is my only vehicle. Will this be good enough, or should I look into a piggyback unit?
