Or you can get a WIFI card and go to war driving sites (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_driving just in case you dont know) and find plenty of open internet hookups

Heh get caught? What do they have their sattelites poiting at you locating you? Wardriving itself is legal as long as you dont use other peoples internet connections (The host is broadcasting a signal you cant help if you catch it). Using a connection on the other hand is maybe illegal but most people who buy and set up their wireless networks straight out of the box wouldn't notice their connections are being used.
