boost without FMU?
well...im broke...and i need the car to move so i can get to work next week.... im selling my bov and my labtop to get it... but so far there are no taker..... anyway..is it ok if i run 3 psi for now so without an fmu?
It's very risky... There is a chance that you might be ok at 3 psi, but I honestly wouldn't take that risk. Wait to turbo your engine. If you can't afford a $75 FMU (not that they are good), then whats going to happen when your engine blows and you need to rebuild or find a new engine? It could be pretty costly. I'd just wait until your definately ready.
I ran for a week without fuel management. We installed my turbo kit one weekend and I couldn't get my ECU chipped until the next weekend. What I did was make sure I had 92 octane in the car, retarded the dizzy a few degrees, had my intercooler installed, and then we unplugged my coolant temp sensor, plugged it into and extra one we had laying around, then just let it hang in the engine bay. By doing this the car would think it's cold and run full rich. Basically a HMT greddy blue box lol.
It worked fine and got me home and back. I probably put about 500 miles on the car (mostly freeway driving) and tried to stay out of boost, but I got on her a few times.
Luckily my wastegate was only set to about 4 psi. I had no missing link so most of the time when I boosted I got a CEL, but not all the time. I just turned the car off while I was driving and turned it back on to reset everything. I only did this as a temporary solution because I had to, I would never recommend running without fuel management.
