Default Subaru XT

Just brainstorming about factory turbo cars and looking for "diamond in the rough" so to speak.
I found a early nineties subaru xt and thought it might make a quick little sleeper and they don't look "too" bad. Here's the specs for around $1700:

first of all it's got a drag coefficient of .29
factory turbocharged Horizontally opposed four with 8.5 compression ratio.
5 spd , AWD
it's a two door
has a digital dash INCLUDING digital boost readings
on different model you can get a n/a 6 cyl and airride suspension.

I haven't found curb weight but I'm guessing it's aroun 2400-2800 range.

what do you guys think, I haven't seen too many and it would be fun to have something different.

I figure strip it out, slap a primer coat on, exhaust, an intercooler, find a way to up the boost and get a new clutch...

put a wrx engine in it.

but if i was you, i would get the ultimate subaru sports car, sleeper, enigma.

the subaru svx.

just to put it one way, trhat was the fastest subaru until the wrx sti came out. not the wrx. the STI.

The XT AWD is a good choice but with limited upgrade options. I don't believe a WRX anything will bolt-in. I'd say the legacy turbo is a better choice as you get a 2.2l 160hp engine and can easilly slap a set of STi heads and an STi turbo and make large amounts of power.

uhh that's kind of the point... to fabricate my OWN exhaust, intercooler piping, boost management, and adaptor plates. To do something very little people are doing right now you know?

Same reason I swapped an STi V4 motor into my 2.5RS. Same reason I swapped a 323GT-R motor into my 1988 323 GTX. Solely to be different. The point I was trying to make is that there will be NIL available for parts. If you do get the car and want measurements I have a lot of parts here I could measure for you... Although there won't be anything available for the XT, Subaru has a tendancy to re-use parts that work year after year. For example, 1992 legacy turbo crossmember fits the GC8 Impreza, the 2002+WRX and the 2004 STi. Perhaps it goes back further to the XT.

I like the SVX too, but weren't they only available with an auto? But yah the SVX has a very low drag coefficient and is pretty unique.

The SVX is sweet, but it's a bit heavy.

There are Manual swap kits, and turbo kits out there. Google is your friend.
