installing a quaife into a y8 tranny?
i'm about to install a quaife lsd into a y8 tranny i've got sitting around. thanks to bambooseven for hookin up the killer price - he has one left, go buy it now before i do
.
anyways, to do this... as far as i understand, you just open the tranny up, remove the reverse shift fork and gear, then string up the whole gear cluster / shift fork assembly together, unbolt it and yank it out. then just tap the final and diff out (theres left handed threads somewhere).
is that about it? someone said something about loctiting everything? i've got a helms manual, but i just want to make sure i do this right. if anyone's done this and could give me some tips or advice (or a how to) that would be great. thanks

yea i'm kinda scared to do this... but i think with some common sense, all the tools, the helms manual by my side, and lots and lots of patience (no beer while working either
) i should be ok.
someone please help me out instead of just increasing my paranoia haha :P

You just have to know a few key things. I know Jeff can tell you exactly what to do and a few other people on this site know. I made a thread a while back and got some good info.
I'll try to find that thread......
EDIT: Here it is. I hope this helps you.

you got the general idea, this is off the top of my head, maybe someone else remembers better (this isnt exactly in order either)
*seperate the halves (take off the end cap and pry the clip apart, then take out the detents on the side of the trans, i think there are 3)
*remove the reverse setup
*from inside the bellhousing, remove the bolt that keeps the shifter assembly from over-rotating (not sure how to explain it, but you'll see it). This will allow you to rotate the assembly enough to let you pull the main shafts out
*the diff will come out if you play with rotating it as you pull if i remember correctly
