Hi, new here. Im wanting to know if you can buy the fancy ceramic bearing that are used in turbos. I found quite alot of ceramic bearings but nothing that can handle 200000rpms.I know that companies like aerocharger have been running ceramic bearings for years, so I would think they're not super fancy or new?

It may just be a question of keeping the bearing small, less diameter so centrifugal forces are less. Do they actually rate ball bearings in RPM capacity?

.....which leads me to my reason for reviving this thread. Has anyone made a ceramic ball bearing assembly that would press into a bored CHRA?

-Make a sleeve say out of steel pipe.
-Press ceramic ball bearings and shaft into sleeve and then press assembly into a CHRA that has been bored to accept this sleeve.
-Viola! My TD05 is now a triple ceramic ball bearing turbo.

Aerocharge are really superb into their work since from years, u can buy a fancy bearings from them.

 

funny....i was thinking EXACT the same today when i was stand in front of my car with a busted RB25 T3.....why not drill the ---- out of it and press new bearings in?

 

I've looked at how Comp Turbo does theirs, pretty slick approach, loose tolerances for heat consideration, grease as a heat sink. Cooling the shaft is currently the obstacle I'm thinking about. Without oil flow thru the CHRA the shaft will be spinning in the open without anything to carry the heat it is getting in the turbine away.

Another company, AR I think, still uses pressurized engine oil but to lube the bearings lightly as well as cool the shaft. They just use two bearings instead of CompTurbo's three.
