Default How did I break two sockets?

Well, I've had huge problems with the crank pulley, What are these things torqued to?

I broke a 3/8 and a 1/2 inch rachet, a 1/2 to 3/8 adapter, and a 3/8 19mm socket. How the ---- do I get this thing off?

All I want is to swap out the damn oil pumps, BAAAAAAA!!!!

Do a search for "crankshaft" or "damn". There were tow threads about this a while ago. You need to use a very large breaker bar and some muscles to get that bitch off. If you have a big enough impact, that will work.

I used a 3 or 4 foot breakerbar and 30" pipe wrench to hold the pulley, maybe I should try a torch like in some older posts.

I'll find out tommorrow I guess....

Impact wrench = 2 seconds and the bolt is out, and pulley off. Save yourselves the hassles of not having the proper tools, and save to buy them, and THEN you can work on your cars. My tools are worth about twice what I paid for the car, and I use them every day, even though I don't work at a shop anymore.

jung4g: it would be nice to have a compressor and a lot of air tools, but then I wouldn't have the car I have. I want some but I have save for college, and my stock losses.

I got is OFF, came off really easily with some heat, torch it for 20 seconds and crack, right off!!!!

I had a 7' breaker bar on mine. I had a 1/2" extention on my ratchet i was holding on the extention where it connects with the ratchert. My hand was wrapped around it and when i was pulling down my hardest where i had my hand at the connected part it blow out one of its side wall which inbedding into my palm of my hand. I had to pull it out of my hand it bursed and hurt like hell i got pissed off enough and broke that ------ bolt free. On my friends sohc we had two people pushing on it to break it free. I can brench 250 pounds and that one bolt made me look like a -----. Those ******* are on there be willing to spend anywhere from 15 seconds to an hour to get them off.

how did you guys keep the pulley from rotating?

I crammed a allen key into one of the pully holes and ended up breaking the pulley apart, it ripped a nice little hcunk out of it so I had to replace it, still couldn't get it off though. paid 500 bucks for honda to do it...
