ok, before my car would only backfire on deceleration. but now, it backfires on acceleration - but only when i floor the gas (like if i am racing). its really annoying. it jerks pretty hard, and it feels like someone is kicking my car when it backfires.

what the hell causes backfiring, and how do i fix this? is this a sign of something bad, or just some trivial bullshit? also, before when i took the exhaust silencer off(a few months ago), i noticed all kinds of crap was built up around it. it looked like a mixed buildup of sand/glass/cigarrette filter type bullshit. quite alot came out, like enough to fill a coke can. is this from my catalytic converter?

considering i live in the desert i guess it wouldn't be highly unlikely that it actually was sand...lol. its kind of hard to think that that much dust could have blown into my exhaust...but would that cause my car to backfire? or is it something else, like from the cat? how would i know if my cat took a ---- on me, if the cat is indeed what is causing me problems?

 

Check timing and fuel. I don't see much more that could cause it to do that?

 

how long was the car running fine (back fire on decel only) until this started happening?

what ecu are u running?
