If you swap an american motor into it that is the same year or higher you should have no problem. Alot of jdm motors have a tough time passing

 

thats correct. I live in Canada but I have heard alot about cali smog. You need a USDM Market motor of the same year or NEWER. you also need to transfer all of the emissions controls of that motor aswell. ECU, Charcol all that crap.

But I'm sure you could swap to a typer head on a delsol vtec w/ type r IM and they wouldn't know any better.

 

mine passed colorado emmit. w/o a problem except for a bad o2 sensor. B16a1 and pr3 ECU!!

 

As long as all the smog related items are on the car and they are working propperly it should pass.My friend has a JDM b16a1 and it passed.It doesnt hurt if you have an AFC and lean that ---- out a little.

 

the main thing they check for usually is if the ecu and emissions stuff match the engine

 

hes right. try using even your stock airbox. you can also put in a new o2 sensor 30 minutes before you go to the smog place. it will pass.

 

Jdmmotors are smog legal now in california. The only thing is you need a usdm ecu to pass at the rev and the motor be of the same ecu style obd 0,1 etc. Jeff Sloan on the Hybrid Board honda.hybrids.jp just smogged his h22 in his coupe at the cali ref.

 

hmmm so if you have a B16A1 yo can't pass?
Cause there is no USDM B16A1 OBD-0 ECU
