2001 Subaru Legacy Install
Hi. New here. I've tried to search to see if this thread was already here, but not too swift with internet. I have an 01 legacy and I had a few questions before tearing my car to ---- and wrecking it.
It's a 2.5
Is the compression too high for the turbo?
How many pounds boost can I run without damage?
How can I control the fuel? I know someone who is an exceptional programmer. Can he program the ECU, or will the fuel regulator that came with the gear that I bought work?
this is a great car with low mileage, so I'm not looking to be too extreme, but it would be great to have some more HP. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

a general rule is you can run 10 psi or less on any non turbo car. there are always exceptions and im sure there are some in both directions with my statement. most of the time, you can safely add 50-75whp over stock.
dont use an FMU, there are other options.
there are a few engine management options, it depends on your budget. do you want to spend $300? $500? $1000?

i don't really have a big budget, wife is giving me a hard time about this as it is. lol. don't really care if i even got to 10 psi. it's pretty sluggish on hills and passing cars. just wanted to perk it up a bit.
FMU. I assume this is fuel management unit? (not used to terms yet)
I was wondering about programming the OEM computer. didn't know if there was a way to break into them. This guy writes programs for game HUD's. he has been into most everything. He seemed intrigued when I mentioned it to him. that was the only reason i mentioned this.

Check out openecu.org. They can reflash some subaru and mitsubishi ecu's with open source software and a cable. Right now it doesn't support your car, but maybe your programmer friend could work with it.
Yes, FMU is Fuel Management Unit. They suck.
