Default Talked to Mechanic today what you think?

Ok i stopped in to talk to a guy that has been building engines for 20 years... Luckily hes my friends dad... but he still charges me ..hmmm i dont get it lol... anyway we were talking about the z6 rebuild i told him i wanted to do rods and pistons with forced induction... He then said so you plan on spending about 1500 jsut on the block right i was like well they only cost like 750 for everything and then he was like yeah.. but you gotta get the crank ground... and balanced.. then replace all the bearings.. get a new oil pump... get the cylinders bored and honed.. I was like wtf... i gotta do all that Have all u guys done this or did you just replace ----?.. He said the big thing is the crank.. and its the hardest part.. getting the thrust bearings in right and tightening everything.. cause the crank is what gives it the balance to last longer... He told me hed do everything but he charges out the *** and i was like well i wanted to do it... so i need some type of step by step process of taking out the pistons rods and crank... along with replacement of bearings... i wanna do this right so can anyone give more feedback cause i took in alot of info with him but cant remember it all... Thanks Brian

first thing you do is go get a manual, preferably the stock honda manual for the engine youve got. then its pretty much following the instructions. if you need pointers as you go i can help with those. Ive prob built twenty ofr thirty honda engines in my time spent at honda,, but that was like nine years ago.

yup that mechanic is DAMN right!!! our d16z6 blew up because all of our tolerances were off and the crank was not balanced. this was when we installed eagle rods and srp pistons. main bearings blew!!!!

yes, get the bearings after the mechanic tells you what size to get. or some even supply you the bearings, gaskets, etc. they just bend you over first the shove it deeper.lol but yeah. they'll tell you what to buy but you can buy just about any kit type stuff from honda. head kit, gasket kit, main and rod bearings, etc. but first, shop around HONDA's first. almost every honda dealer has a diff. price. if you live in cal, try WESLOH HONDA in san clemente. they know just about everything, they even got b16's on hand, intercoolers, turbos, vafc, etc. you name it, they got it ON HAND. its sooooo cool there. also try Manchester honda online. good luck

Most shops will charge about 30% over cost for parts, some even higher. thats how they keep their labor rate low, to lure you in, the you take it in the *** on parts.
