Turbo noob, BMW 325 M50 NV
 

Hey gang,

Long time BMW guy, new to turbo.
My 92' M50 Non-Vanos is aching for a rebuild and boost. I'm here to gather as much info as I can on the ins and outs of adding a turbo system to a street driven vehicle.

The M50 block is ready for mild boost up to 350hp, some say even 400. Mine needs a rebuild anyway so I'll go back with a thicker MLS to lower compression and ARP studs to hold everything together.

The main roadblocks the M50 NV has for boosting is the tuning, more specifically the MAF which maxes out early on. Being specific to 92' there are not many options for upgrades like later years that use the 913 DME. My next thought is a way to fool the MAF or re-scale the output to delay maxing out. I have read that some have used a resistor inline to fool the ECU but it suffers with lower end readings.

I currently have the self tunable Miller WAR chip for BMW which I can manipulate timing and fuel and rev limits. I would like to keep this if possible but if the MAF is still the bottle neck I guess I can go with something stand alone like MSquirt?

Will the use of Msquirt allow me to bypass the OEM MAF and run via MAP sensor? I have a lot to learn, these are just some of the ideas needing clarification bouncing around in my head.

Any other BMW guys here that have some experience to share?
