North American Turbos?
Hi all. I am new here, but not to Turbos.
I see many folks here are into Japanese cars with 4cyls. I guess they need turbos to keep up!;) I have a few of my own, 04 WRX, 10 Genesis GT, 88 S10 with a 2.3 Ford T-Bird Turbo engine, but am playing with some larger GM stuff right now. My truck is a 2004 Silverado SS 6.0l with a Precision 75/75 turbo and my sons car is a 1986 Buick T-Type with a 4.1l stroker. Currently trying to decide on engine management options for the T-Type. Anyone got any insight here? I am using the factory ECU and HP Tuners for the SS, but the Buick ECU isn't flashable, just chip replacement, and is limited anyway. I would prefer datalogging and wideband capability. I imagine on a site like this members have lots of "What not to do" stories. Should we have a thread for that? Would be a fun read! Pics and all! |
Welcome to the site! My biggest "what not to do" story I've personally done is trying to put a single K-car turbo on a Mopar slant six. Result was a turbo that would hit 10 psi at 1500 RPM, then choke off the motor above 3000...
I'd recommend an MS3-Pro for this one, but I'm a bit biased as I was the project manager for its development in addition to being here as a site sponsor. :D https://www.diyautotune.com/ms3-pro.html This one will do onboard data logging, can use an external wideband sensor, and can be tuned in real time. We even have a breakout board available to make an adapter between it and a stock Grand National wiring harness, although this will take some soldering. |
I like the adapter idea to plug in to the factory harness. Is it a kit?
One ":What not to do" is raise the rev limit of an turbo'd Honda B18A to 8500 without upgrading the rod bolts (tiny on the LS motor, better on the V-Tech engines). Ran 12.4 with a big hole in the block.:p |
