ZC trans or SI trans?

Alright my friends selling both of these trans, which would be the better trans? Also since this is going in a STD can I use my DX axles in this trans? I thought there was something different about the axles ut I can't remember exactly what it was...

I would go with a LSD ZC, but they are so hard to find. I think that guy on Ebay(guit guit)is going to have some soon.

Not sure about the axles. :P

I think I might go for the ZC and as for the LSD part, I already bought one. Did you know Lincoln Welders made LSD's? :P

Re:ZC trans or SI trans?

With the zc tranny your going to need 90-93 teg axles and the Zc intermediate shaft, that's the only intermediate shaft that will work. If your putting the zc tranny on something other than the zc engine, you will probably have to tap two holes on the back of the block where the IS bolts up.

I think the zc is better overall though cause you get equal length shafts which reduce wheel hop and torque steer. I used to get alot of wheel hop with my si tranny.

Re:ZC trans or SI trans?

ZC closer gears, lower final, equal length shafts

Si wider gears, higher final

Of course the ZC with the Si final is the king of all d series trannies, but i would choose the ZC over the Si anyday.

having had both the zc an si for some reason i still like the si tranny....but im sticking with the zc because theres a lot less torque steer.the thing i dont like about the zc is the short ass 5th gear. do a lsd zc/si hybrid

I'm thinking about doing the SI/ZC hybrid but I need to talk him into it.

will ZC axles work in DX hubs?

Re:ZC trans or SI trans?

DX/SI hubs are the same..

Re:ZC trans or SI trans?

you could also use DX axles w/ teg inner joints.. but forget having equal length axles.

1.6 SOHC has the holes tapped for the intermediate shaft already, while 1.5L engines have the bosses, they are just not drilled & tapped.

Re:ZC trans or SI trans?

why not a si tranny with a quaffie (sp) diff?

then you wouldnt have to go through all the axle problems.

or am I incorrect?

The ZC final drive is what you want in the SI trans. A Quaife is $800 and has nothing to do with axles, axles are not a problem

Shift forks are the problem on l3 trannys :-\

Si tranny with ZC final drive = DX tranny.

ZC has a 3.88 final drive, identical to the DX tranny. Use the Si 4.25 final drive in the close ratio ZC tranny and have a good setup..
