Default Z6 or Y8?

I realise what year the Z6 came out of but I am just wondering because there has been a lot of talk about how the Z6 is better then the Y8. I was going to swap out my Y7 for a Y8 but would it be possible to swap a Z6 into my Civ? Its a 99 SE.

if you swapped to a z6 you could also swap to obd1 and use uberdata. That's what i would look into. Just my $0.02

My quetion is can I put a Z6 in my car though, like with a Y8 its almost a direct drop very simple but with a Z6 would it be the same or would have to make some changes?

if u have a 96 d15 vtec check to see if u have 2 vtec solenoids
u may require 2 vtec sources

Ya i have to vtec solenoids but would i still have oil problems? I assume since it's a jdm 1.5 it might not have that problem. I read somewhere on this site that i could change the oil pump and pan for the z6 one. That's true right?

as long as you used the y7/y8 mounts that are on your motor it is a drop in bolt up, you will need to do a OBD-1 conversion though

the z6 is considered "better" for a few reasons, the head tends to flow better stock.
The major difference is the y7/y8s have a nitorious record for spinning rod bearings bc of some oiling issues. some have had good success but the majority hasnt, a fellow staff member on my site is now on his 4th y8 motor in his civic and they all have been N/A motors with only minor bolt ons

i would go z6 for reliability, a good base to start with, and essentially the same motor as the y8, same bore/stroke, just minus the oil problems and a head that tends to flow better
I thought it was the opposite. Y8 head flows better Z6 has a better bottom end. Correct me if im wrong.

But what about the oil pump + pan can they be swapped? A y8 block-z6 oil pump +pan.

The flow differences in the heads is so minimal in my opinion its whats cheaper it's like the b16/gsr head it's just preference. Yes the y7/8 oil pumps suck ***** there trash plain and simple
