z6/y7

i have a problem i put a z6 head on a y7 and when i turn the cam gear to do the timing it turns but it is kinda difficult, my friend says that the piston is hitting the valves, i thought this setup was ok. need help :-\

Re:z6/y7

is the timing belt on or are you just spinning the cam on its own? as long as the timing isnt off like a million degrees, there wont be a problem. there is supposed to be resistance when you spin a motor as long as it has compression ;)

the timing belt is off :-\
my friend says the belt will be chewed up

Re:z6/y7

if the timing belt is off then the valve will stays at whatever position it is no matter how you turn the crank.
it IS going to hit the valve.

align the cam and the crank then put the belt on .

Re:z6/y7

oh when you said you were trying to do the timing by turning the cam...
if it is hitting the piston, then turn the crank as well
you have to turn BOTH of them get it align, not just the cam

I thought by putting a Z6 head on a Y7 you got very low compression?

Re:z6/y7

i dont know if the compression would be lower

Re:z6/y7

i think it actually ends up the same but dont quote me. you might want to check if you bent those valves now :P

Re:z6/y7

I dont think you can bend them by hand... It wouldnt be hard to turn, it wouldnt turn if you were hitting valves. All 4 of his pistons might have been halfway down or up and he might have just been spinning the valves around, who knows.

Spade told me basically the same. It won't change, no problems mating a z6 with a y7 block.
