Z6 Intake Manifold

Hey

I'm a little confused, I have a Z6 intake manifold with all the sensors, and I'm wondering whether I need to convert my harness to OBD1 (It's an 90 DX), or whether I can just do a straight DPFI to MPFI swap? Thanks.

Brett

Re:Z6 Intake Manifold

IMO its easier to just use an a6 manifold.

I did a z6 manifold onto my crx Si so it was already MPFI.

After you swap to MPFI you dont need to go to OBD-I to use the z6 manifold. you will lose the FITV as well as have to extend some hoses, as well as extend the MAP sensor wires. I only did it so I could utilize a b18b1 60mm TB. Otherwise the a6 is the easiest bolt in afair for the MPFI swap. The a6/z6 manifolds are almost identicle.

heres a write up (for a y8) to OBD-0 d16a6, but it will be easier than this:

If you do use the a6(EDIT after post: Meant Z6 not A6),

switch to the d15b7 IACV valve or the p28 (if u got one with it)

ALso, I have a complete a6 manifold with throttle body complete and ready for MPFI swap. Dont know if your interested.

Explain why to switch to those valves?

Ok, from what I've since learned after I posted this, I need to swap in an OBD0 Dizzy and injectors, otherwise the intake manifolds are the same. I've already got the Z6 manifold with all the sensors on it, but no injectors, so I think I will stick with that. Thanks.

crx88Si>>>
EDIT: i mis typed above, i meant to say if u use the Z6 not a6. apologies.

the p28 comes stock, but a lot of the time when gettign these manifolds they are stripped, so sometimes people attempt to use the OBD-0 ones which will not bolt to the manifold. The bolt hole do not line up. theoretically if you really wantd to use an obd-0 IACV on an OBD-I manifold you could have a hole drilled a tapped as there is a casting spot for it.

The FITV is simply not needed on the OBD-0 harness, unplug it. Mines just dangling. The d16z6 OBD-I and newer manifolds do not have this sensor anymore. I do not know if it makes a difference for california smog rules, i would doubt they will pick up on it as it is on the back of the manifold and using the z6 manifold looks OEM and "unmodifed" if you know what you are doing.

Here you can see where I had to extend the MAP wires. (it was unfinished at time of this pic, doesnt look ugly anymore)

the a6 manifold and d15b2 are NOT the same.

z6 manifold (also mine hehe)
you an see how the layout differs from the a6 since it is OBD-I

Re:Z6 Intake Manifold

I know the A6 and the B2 manifolds are different, come on gimme some credit ;)

I have a Z6 manifold, waiting to bolt onto a Z6 head, which is then going to be used on a D15B2 block. All that I've learned so far, is that aside from the dizzy, and the injectors (which I need to use OBD0 units) everything can be used, which means I won't need to switch to OBD1, I can just add some wires to my harness, which makes my life A LOT easier.

I understand also, that the A6 and Z6 manifolds have a different layout, the whole point for me here, is to not switch my entire wiring to OBD1, and just replace what I need to on the Z6 manifold to stay OBD0. Am I missing anything here? :-\

sorry, from your post above I must of crossed the communications wires. Apologies.

if all your worried about is swithcing from obd0 to obdI i assure you that you do not in order ot use the z6 manifold.

As far as the manifold goes it hooks right up. the write up link I gave you above has the install for a y8 manifold to a obd-0 engine with OBD-0 harness. My car sports the z6 manifold on a obd-0 harness. follow that write up and youll be fine.

*whew* ;D

Thanks, I just needed confirmation, but this makes me much happier, now I just need a way to activate Vtec...
