z6 ef ?????
hello guys,
i picked up a z6 motor for 150.00 and a ecu for 100. i have the slow 91dx hatch. anyways, i have a guy going to wire the car for the p28 ecu ect. thats not my problem. my problem is, what is the "hidden" parts about this swap? at first i thought i could drop it in, have it wired, and be set. now im thinking the throttle cable wont work (so i would need a SI cable) and what else? is it true i need a SI intake manifold? remember, this is a z6 vtec swap, and i have the z6 manifold and everything with the motor. i sold the tranny and going to use my DX tranny and have a stage 1 clutch sitting here already. please enlighten me more about this swap. i read online that i have to use the SI intake manifold, but not positive if thats correct. thank you for your time. stephen 5-C Creations |
Re:z6 ef ?????
well its wierd that you read that couse i was just getting ready to post about this my self couse i was told that buy a guy today that has this swap in his rex and i seen it for my self it works using the si one so hopfully someone can help us both out here

Re:z6 ef ?????
well i think you can use the SI I/M and stay obd0 and just use TurboEdit to activate vtec, or you can just convert to obd1 and use p28. If you decide to go obd1 i would sugest getting a ex/si engine wire loom, makes it much easier.

Re:z6 ef ?????
Re-wiring the car to obd1 would be a big mistake. Stay obd 0 and do a multi point fuel injection swap. Go here:

Re:z6 ef ?????
i have a OBD0 EF 4dr with a D16Z6 [turbo]... i used the stock Z6 IM, sensors, ect. i am be using turboedit on a chipped PS9 ECU...
i suggest using a 89-91 tranny, and a 90-up flywheel/clutch assy sence it is the bigger setup (200mm vs 212mm, and the 88 tranny is a gay bastard)... want pics? let me know what you want to see... |
Re:z6 ef ?????
if your z6 doesnt have a dizzy ur gonna need an obd1 distributor. If you got the wiring all set you can just use the z6 manifold.

Re:z6 ef ?????
i have p28 ecu
z6 dizzy and z6 i/m i DO NOT have an SI manifold i was paying a guy 275 to rewire the car to obd1 (ecu harness, ect) so my question still is can i use my z6 dizzy, ecu and manifold, with my EF chassis. as long as its wired to obd1. and what else do i need, an SI throttle cable, ect.... yea, if you have pics, please e-mail them to me at smokeshank@hotmail.com |
Re:z6 ef ?????
you are having your car rewired to be OBD1....the engine you bought is OBD1. As long as this guy picks up an EX wiring harness for some extra plugs, i don't see what the problem is.... ??? Get the Si tranny, you'll feel the difference.

Re:z6 ef ?????
i have a obd1 engine in my ef and if ur wiring is ok than u can use the z6 i/m and everything else obd1

Re:z6 ef ?????
There are alot of you guys that don't know what you are talking about. I will tell you what you can use. I have the same setup on my car.
DPFI to MPFI swap first. The only differnce in the wiring is that you don't put a resistor box on it. The wires go straight to the ecu. And DO NOT GROUND THE YELLOW BLACK WIRES. you will have lots of problems. 92-95 dizzy 92-95 ecu plugs for the obd1 conversion 92-95 intake manifold. it works. Its on my car DX exhaust manifold the Z6 won't line up with you exsiting exhaust. you can use the dx axles. Just get an Si tranny. My car is slow cuz of my DX tranny. Oh and make sure the guy doing the wiring soders al the wires. Just some future warning. 4 wire o2 sensor Make sure you replace the coolent temp switch or your fan won't turn on. I think thats it. Pm if you have any more question. |
Re:z6 ef ?????
ok im staying obdo so i need a si intake? and if so will the tb of the z6 intake work on my si intake and will a fuel rail and injectors off my dohc zc work in the si manifold?
|
Re:z6 ef ?????
the guy doing the swap said he was using a 5g civic harness (im gonna swap him cores with my z6 harness)
so hopefully all goes well. but what all do i need tho other than wiring? i think i need an SI throttle cable right? since the DX is like 8feet long! |
Re:z6 ef ?????
i used my DX and it worked;but i want the si one

Re:z6 ef ?????
If you could hook up a z6 with your obd0 harness, why would anyone want to go through all that wiring and extra parts?? ???
|
Re:z6 ef ?????
Yeah what steath said. It will be cheaper and faster and easier to just use your dx harness to do the swap. I could do the engine wiring in about a day but that won't work since I live in nebraska. But I think that you can do it yourself. As for the ecu wiring just look for all the wiring diagrams that are on either Honda tech or somewhere else on the internet. Its all there you just have to look.

Re:z6 ef ?????
less ---- u have to buy :)
OBD 1 is still better to tune, showdownmotorsports and slowmotionmotorsports suggest going OBD1 if i have the chance. |
Re:z6 ef ?????
its becouse they dont know how to tune OBD 0
