Z6 in a '85 CRX?
I saw a very interesting swap on ef-honda.. a first gen CRX with a Mugen wide body kit and ish like that.. the thing that really caught my eye though was the D16Z6 swap into the car.
I'm asking this question because I happened to find a perfectly rust free 1985 CRX Hf going for a really great price, saw this car online and thought it looked nuts. I've researched and researched and have not found anyone who makes mounts or anything for this, or even how to do it. And, thus complying with Stealthmode's wishes, here are three pictures of that sweet car. http://www.hs3.net/rides/brian/09.jpg http://www.hs3.net/rides/brian/013.jpg http://www.hs3.net/rides/brian/08.jpg Someone help me please ;) |
Re:Z6 in a '85 CRX?
hasport put a b16 in a 86 and they make mounts. I have the artical somewear. They said it was faster than ---- because it was so light. They started with a fuel injected car though. let me know if you want me to dig it up. ;)

Re:Z6 in a '85 CRX?
That would be awesome dude. If you can dig that up I'll be forever grateful :D

that should tie you over for now. |
Re:Z6 in a '85 CRX?
Oh snap, those things are more than the car itself :(
Oh well, maybe down the road when I have some actual money I'll do a B18 swap in a 1g ;D What about the D series mounts though, you ever see anything for those? |
Re:Z6 in a '85 CRX?
I bet a guy will a welder could mock up a set real quick like. To bad you dont live closer to me. ;)

Re:Z6 in a '85 CRX?
IMO it's not worth it in a non-FI(fuel injected) car like a Hf.
Easiest thing to do is the d16a1 swap. Wanna sell that hf? ;) |
Re:Z6 in a '85 CRX?
I was actually waiting for you to post, since you yourself own a first gen and might know more than me.
It's not mine, but if you want to coem out here and get it, you could chill here for a day or whatnot. :P EDIT: I think you were talking about the car pictured. That is not the one for sale, the reason its there is for reference to the D16Z6 swap. The Hf is red. I personally have not seen it yet, but my friend Kaleb already went out there and checked it out for me. |
Re:Z6 in a '85 CRX?
Kid wrote to me, check it :
"You have to have a D16Z6 block because of the P/S pump location. This will become the mount for the engine. Use the mount from the old engine. We used the CG trans, flywheel and ACT clutch from an 89 Integra. We also used the intermediate shaft and redrilled the block to bolt up the shaft. The trans will bolt on using 4 bolts, I think. One of the starter holes will not line up, so you will have to get a bigger bolt and redrill the case. Because you are using the CG trans, the rear mount and pass side mount will be retained. It will bolt in. The 89 Integra axles drop right in. The alternator bracket will hit the master cylinder, so I cut a section out with a plasma cutter to clear. 8) We reused the CRX radiator and lower hose. You will have to use a low profile fan and I have no idea what upper hose. The wire harness is a OBD 0 with a OBD 1 subharness that my friend Brian and I fabricated. " He makes it sound pretty straight-forward and simple. What do you guys think? |
Re:Z6 in a '85 CRX?
wtf, the top engine mount isnt even there!

Re:Z6 in a '85 CRX?
I don't know what you guys think.. but it doesn't seem safe to me :-\

Holy damn, that engine bay is ------- clean. I can't wait to get my clutch so I can yank the motor and power wash/paint my engine bay. I wouldn't waist your time on that car. I was going to buy the same car, but ---- making a carbed Crx into injected. It would be cool to do something so tedious, but that's too much damn work IMO. Stick with an Si. :-\ __________________ Best Car Insurance | Auto Protection Today | FREE Trade-In Quote |
Re:Z6 in a '85 CRX?
That's what I'm figuring. I just need a car really bad that I can maybe swap out the engine later down the road.

Come on now :P That car is mad clean but some things sound a little fishy...for instance the "power steering pump mount"? Geesh! Then all the tapping and redrilling to make it all work. It'd be too much for me. |
Re:Z6 in a '85 CRX?
Seriously though man, if you want that 1g for sale around here (since I know yours is all rusted out to crap) I'll talk to the guy for ya. PM me if you want it.
