for you mini me people (96-2000)hx and y8 heads)

well found out the 96 - 2000 hx and y8 head are the same..valves,springs,and retainers...only thing that was not the same are the cam and rocker arms..duuuhh...i was really getting sick of the 12 valve hx head..i know its 16 valve but only when vtec kicks on..rotate hx cam, with the head off and only 12 valve open..i had a y8 cam and rocker assembly laying around ..i slap them on and reset the valves, presto 16 valve real vtec head..i just figured people might want to know..also to note.the hx block is the same as a y8..same pistons, same everything...

HX doesn't equal Y8, get your info correct.

only thing that was different was the intake manifold, rocker arm assembly, and cam (on the head)i did get it right..y5 blocks have the same internals as a y8..check the pistons and rods..

whoa they are that close? so theorticly i could get a d16y5 from my friend for dirt cheap, find a y8 cam and throw it in and set the valves and have a y8 basicly right? hmm... thats pretty cool actually, thanks for posting that

you'd have to use the Y8 head. the VTEC oil passages are different between the Y5 and Y8 head.

Thats a whole lotta hassle to just get a y8. I like my y5 head and I pulled my z6 head off in place of a hx head and run a chipped p28 and lowered the vtec to 3500 and its nice.

So you're saying that you put a D16Y8 cam with the rocker arms off of a D16Y5 head and it worked?
What do you mean reset the valves? Putting them at TDC?
