Y8 swap into 94 civic ex.

K, my buddy just got a great deal on a 94 ex chasis. We can get a cheap 97 engine, but as of right now we don't know if it's a y8 or y7.

What are we going to need wiring wise? We have a z6 intake manifold and a few mis. parts. Can we use the intake mani. from the z6, bolt it to the y8/y7 and be straight? or Do we need anything else like a dizzy?

Thanks ahead.

drop the whole thing in and use a D15 dizy.
you will need to ditch the rotory air entry thingy and the knock sensor.

So if I get a y7 I can use a b7 dizzy. If I get a y8 I can use the z6 dizzy? Will they just plug and play?

with the Y8 you can not use Z6 dizy, not if you hack the legs.(enlarge the top one, grind open the front one and ditch the rear one)
u have to use D15 non-vtec dizys

Re:Y8 swap into 94 civic ex.

Thanks for the help Donald, I can only find random info on this by searching.

We just went and picked up the motor, it's a y7.
So this is what I've got so far:

1) I can bolt the z6 IM to the y7 block.
2) We need a obd1 d15 non vtec dizzy.
3) Everything should just plug in, we don't have to add any wires. (if plugs are different we can swap them cause the y7 came with the harness on it).

For ecu, we've got a p28 that's already chippable and I can burn a chip for it.
Can we use this as stock or do I need to burn a d15b7 map for it?

Thanks, I just want to make sure we've covered all the bases before we dive into this.

stock p28 map won`t work coz it `s gonner show all kinda vtec related cel.

ok, so I can burn a non-vtec map for it and we'll be straight right?

Thanks,
Dustin

Re:Y8 swap into 94 civic ex.

stock p28 map WILL work, but the CEL will be on for the VTEC solenoid and VTEC pressure switch. I know 3 or 4 people who have ran p28 ecu's in their d15 civics with no problems. It doesnt go into limp mode or anything like that.

If you'd like, run wires for the VTEC solenoid and VTEC pressure switch, and then instead of plugging them into something, put 10w10ohm resistors in line and it will fool the ECU into thinking they are hooked up. Sometimes though, if you are crusing in "VTEC rpm" for extended periods of time, the CEL will still come on.

If you can deal with the CEL being on, just run the p28 stock. If you have the ability to chip ECU's, you might as well change the maps to suit your setup.

Re:Y8 swap into 94 civic ex.

yeah, I went ahead and burned the maps from a po6 onto a chip. First time using uberdata, hope it works. :P

The only thing I'm still a little worried about is the dizzy, we already have a z6 dizzy and it sounds to me by the responses here and on honda tech, that we can use it on the y7 as long as we rig it up to fit. (enlarge holes and mount it).

oh yeah, what's the difference in the obd2-1-0 dizzys?

Re:Y8 swap into 94 civic ex.

i think the obd2 dizzy should work. the electronics are the same for dizzys from obd1-2. obd0 are on their own.

try the obd2 dizzy if u have it handy.
