Default y7-y8 head swap problem

---- i feel ------- stupid having to ask questions like this but i am having a brain ----.

I swapped a y8 head onto my buddys y7 block and the thing runs like a dog. Starts up fine. Idles fine. Slow as ---- though. Revs slow even in neutral. I just mean it feels weaker then it should. To me it seams like its a tooth off on the timming belt. But ive checked it tons of times already and the marks all line up. Only thing i can think of is that it is throwing a knock sensor code due to a broke sensor. When i checked the timming it was way off. Im at about 4 degrees btdc all the way advanced. Could a bad knock sensor on these motors throw off the timming that bad?? When i was adjusting the timing on the car with the dizzy loose i noticed there was a spark jumping from the top of the dizzy mount to the cylinder head. Only with the dizzy loose. Im guessing something in the dizzy is shorting out but that still doesnt explain why the timming is so far off. So tell me im a idiot whats your guys advise. Ive never owned a 96+ civic with knock sensor... So im not sure if these ******* could ---- the timming up that bad

i think the KS might cause it to do that because if i remember right the obd2 ecu relys alot on the KS for input and adjust timing acoordingly. not 100% sure but i could have swore i heard that before, just something for you to look into.
any other CEL's?

yep that was what i was thinking too. Im just not familar enough with the knock sensors to know if its capable of throwing timing off that bad if not working correctly.
Thats the only code it throws...

knock sensor code kills cars performance. Do yourself a favor spend 75 bucks on a conversion harness and get a p28.

sweet! Thats all i need to know. I was hoping this was why it felt so damn slow and sluggish! I would convert it but its not mine. I owed money to my girlfriends bro so i did it as a favor for him! Thanks for the info guys!

Y7 doesn't have a knock sensor. Obviously if you have spark jumping there is your problem.

Then he would have a CEL and he would also have a CEL for the IAC, as you know the y7 is 3 wire and the stick Y8 is 2 wire. (for the P2P)

He said he is getting a knock sensor code and yes he would also be getting the code for the iacv due to the 2 wire iacv on the d16y8

to clear things up. The car is a 96 EX. It had a y8 in it before. But when he bought it someone had swapped in a y7. So all i had to do was swap the head and inake to a y8. The wiring for a y8 was already there! So i had no problems with the iac or anything else. But ----. I just thought about the y7 not having one?? I honeslty just swaped the head as quick as possible and parked that ---- outside for him to pick up at my work since i was suppose to be working on one of my dealerships used's cars for a up comming ad in the paper for a 488$ car, not his car. ---- so how do people get around with y7-y8 head swaps without converting to obd1??

Im just gonna tell him to buy a new dizzy, get a chipped ecu and a conversion harness. That way he can solve all these problems..
