y5 to y8 head
how hard would it be. i have a d16y5 in my hx and i have heard so a lot about how it flows poorly and i know the vtec e is just a pain in the ass. is it as simple as just unbolting the old and replacing with the new, then changing my ecu?
if i can do that it would be great. thanks andy |
Re:y5 to y8 head
my brother has the d15b1 vtec e pos, in his 94 vx hatch, im going z6 head with z6 intake mani, injectors tb, and the z6 vtec ecu.. itll work

Re:y5 to y8 head
so all i have to do is put the y8 head on with the y8 intake manifold and tb and plug in the new ecu and i will be good to go right?

Re:y5 to y8 head
I dont have much first hand knowledge with the OBD2 blocks, but I really couldnt see why you couldnt swap the entire y8 top end over. It's probably going to be plug and pray ;) Both heads use the same config, and bore size is the same. You should have no problems, and notice a pretty decent gain.
Good luck Jeff |
Re:y5 to y8 head
would it be a safe bet to go to a salvage yard and pull off a y8 head then send it out for a port & polish job? i think i could pick up a head pretty cheap around hear because there are a lot of civics in the area and even more in the salvage yards.

Re:y5 to y8 head
Why would that be safe? it sounds like it would be more expensive than anything? ??? Full P&P jobs range from 550~1200
I'd just slap the ------- head on, and build a turbo kit for it :) |
Re:y5 to y8 head
alrighty then...i guess i will just get one and toss it on. will the wiring harnesses for my car just plug right into a new ex ecu? since i do have a version of vtec it should have all the correct pinouts right?
thanks for the help... |
