Y does it always takes 5 crank to start my car.?

whenever my car sits pass 6 to 8 hours. or say in a very cold weather(which means every morning :-\)..it ALWAYS takes like 5 crank to start it up. it does that before my motor got re-build and even after that.
fuel pressure`s good, 225 fuel pump`s already in., it will kept on doing it after tune-ups.
but if i`ve been driving it, let it sit for say an hour or two,. it does not do it and starts right up.
and idea???

mine is doing the exact same thing man! it gets worse the longer it sits!

timing???

Re:Y does it always takes 5 crank to start my car.?

nar, its a perfer TDC, i tried 14 to 18 ig timing, different plug gap. doesn`t do anything

Maybe your ECT (engine coolant temperature sensor) is either bad or unplugged. Did you check your ecu for codes?

Re:Y does it always takes 5 crank to start my car.?

no code at all. :-\

-Battery drain
-Alternator

check those

On older cars, the ignition system is mostly to blame.

On my carb'd v8 it takes a while for the fuel to pump back thru the lines and go into the carb after I let it sit for a week (I know cause I have one of those nifty see-thru fuel filters on the fuel line).

Remove the cat and see if that helps you out.

Re:Y does it always takes 5 crank to start my car.?

battery and ALternator`s good.
i don`t have a cat. :(
the last one thing i didn`t replace and Might cause this is the IG coil.

Re:Y does it always takes 5 crank to start my car.?

let it prime for 5 sec, then start.

Mine USED to do this. every morning take like 5 cranks to start. Since then I've done oil changes, new bat, and cleaned my IACV. Now it starts almost too quick.

Do basic tune up, cap, rotor, wires, plugs, fluids etc. Then clean the IACV.

I think you already did the tune up right?..so n/m.

Re:Y does it always takes 5 crank to start my car.?

do you have bigger injectors/fuel pressure gauge/fuel pressure regulator??? any of these could have a small leak that allows the fuel pressure to drop to zero after a while. Most cars do it, unless you have a stock car, just prime the lines before you crank, that should help alot. I turn mine to prime the lines, then turn off, then I turn back on the crank to start. Remember your fuel pump does not stay on all the time. It goes on and off so the frist time you try to start if it does not have enough fuel pressure then your car wont start. 98ctr

Re:Y does it always takes 5 crank to start my car.?

it`s not the fuel pressure either.
fuel pressure builds up really quick after i turned the key.
still does that no matter how many time i prime it.

i`ve done tune ups, check all sensor, ALternator, battery, starter, fuel pressure, fuel pump, played with cold idle valve, ig timing/ fuel pressure, cam timing `s good, checked ground connection, tired different plugs/wires, plug gap, valve lash, tried reseting ECU, i`ve checked the coil and reading `s within spec.
the PGMFI relay and the coil is all i am thinking of..
but these ---- are dam expensive to replace. :-\

next is clean the IACV :)

Re:Y does it always takes 5 crank to start my car.?

did it already, cleaned TB plate, passage, IAC, changed gasket. nothing helps.

injectors? lol man, just live with it i guess!

Re:Y does it always takes 5 crank to start my car.?

going to replace it this week end with 450 and Uberdata.
we`ll see whatsup

BTW, it`s been leaning out to the last LED on my AF gauge everytime when i go pass vtec..it doesn`t do it b4...
so hopefully it is the injectors that`s ------ around.. :-\

Re:Y does it always takes 5 crank to start my car.?

Hummmm, my car is doing the same thing, and my friends does it also. Mine take two cranks and it will start up. But then sometimes, i have driven it for a while, and turn it off, and it wont start for like 7 or 8 times, sometimes i have to restart the ecu????

Im seriously thinking the PGMFI RElay!! I dont want to replace it with a old one tho!! When it does it, try and hit the dash where the little coin holder thing to the left of the steering wheel, and see if it cranks????

Also, maybe i need to clean my IACV??? Does anyone know what the FAST idle valve does?? i know that mine isnt hooked up, because the wires are sitting there!! i dont know where they go on the ECU PINout.

Im going to do mine right now! Ill let you know how it does, do i really need to replace that o ring?

Re:Y does it always takes 5 crank to start my car.?

also i think lower compression could effect this too.

Donald125 07-05-2004 01:55 PM

Re:Y does it always takes 5 crank to start my car.?

it`s not the compression either...
it use to do it when it is low but then it still does it after i had it rebuild...
oh well i didn`t do any compression test on the new motor anyway (just don`t want to know :P)

Re:Y does it always takes 5 crank to start my car.?

your fuel pressure could be dropping.

if you stop for a little bit then go to start it does it fire right back up? and does it seem that the longer it sits the harder it is to start?

my 300z is like that; the one way valve in the fuel pump doesn't quite work and it'll take a few cranks to prime the fuel system and get it to pressure.

Re:Y does it always takes 5 crank to start my car.?

My CRX is still doing it! Ive got all new wires, and stuff, i think i want to replace the throttle body! becuase ever since i put that one in, its messed everythign up!! now it revs at 3 k! sticking!

Donald125 07-05-2004 11:04 PM

Re:Y does it always takes 5 crank to start my car.?

it has something to do with the temp..

like these couple days i woke up kinda late (noon time) and it`s all hot outside already, all it take is a singal crank and it start right up..
pgmfi relay still???

so your crx wont rev over 3k?

your ecu is fucked buddy; check for cel's and check your tps map and all that other ---- wiring. a 3k rev limit means the ecu is running in limp mode; it'll run rich as ---- and have a 3k rev limit

Re:Y does it always takes 5 crank to start my car.?

No it was my throttle cable it was binding and making it stick.
