Wtf... idle problems

So yesterday I finally got my car piped with real pipes instead of pvc... going from non-intercooled pvc to steel pipe intercooler is a crazy difference.

One problem though... The first time I turned it on after i got the piping in, my idle was fucked up and still is. it idles 500 rpm high when it's cold, then after you go a little bit, it starts bouncing between 500rpm and 2500. if you tap the gas lets say up to 3k, it stays at 3 for a sec and then falls back down to 500 and back and forth. Idk what it could be. Any ideas?

O, and randomly on occasion it will idle fine. ???

It did that to me when I first started it up, but I wasn't boosted. I just had all my piping on and running a filter where the turbo would be through the intercooler. It stopped in like 5 mins. or atleast the next time I turned on the car though. I don't know if it's the same thing or not.

What kind of car exactly?

Spiratic idle usualy means it's something ignition related. Check that first.

What should i be checking for?

Well, your basic ignition components (spark plugs, etc). Could also be a vacuum leak.

Also check your coolant level and make sure there are no air pockets in the system. That will also cause your idle to fluctuate.

how exactly do i check for air pockets in the coolant system? I did my coolant recently and changed a couple lines. That could definitley be the prob

... how are bubbles in the cooling system going to case an irratic idle?

I'm not exactly sure why, but I am 100% sure that it happens. Happened to me before, maybe someone else on this board with a little more knowledge can explain how it causes erratic idle.

Anyways, to check for air in your cooling system take off your radiator cap and start the car. Fill it all the way to the top. Squeeze the upper radiator hose and you may see bubbles. Keep squeezing it over and over until there are no more bubbles and keep your radiator completely full of coolant. It also helps if you push down on the bumper repeatedly and rock the car up and down to help shake more bubbles loose that may be in the system. Let me know how things work out.

I think there is a bleeder screw that you can use too, but I have always done it the ghetto way ;)
