WTF!!!!

Ok I replaced my tranny on my b16
While in the process of that I decided to swap my cam gears with some adjustable ones
At TDC the marks line up perfect...
its in time

But when i crank it...the car stumbles and ---- if i take it easy on the thottle accelerating the car runs fine
but when i start to get in on it a little the car just starts missing and running like ---- again.....
it kinda seems like ignition problem, but i never fuked with the dizzy or anything i dont have a clue what the ---- is wrong.....anybody have any ideas

Re: WTF!!!!

Are you sure all the markings are lined up. CRANK-Intake gear-Exhaust gear??

Re: WTF!!!!

Positive both on 0 degress and the notches are facing each other......
the notch on the crank pulley farthest from the 3 is TDC

right?
Thats how it looks.....

but when i pulled my valve cover off the gasket didnt seal right and theres a fuckload of oil in the sparkplug holes.....
i jus noticed that so im gunna get that out and try again.....i keep you updated

Re: WTF!!!!

I tried it again....no go

I putting the old ones back on and retiming it
if that dont work

Re: WTF!!!!

It's timing, either the crank or the cam's are off by a tooth. Keep in mind that when you tighten the belt that the cam gears are going to want to move. 90% of the time it's the intake cam that moves a tooth, but it is possible the crank moved as well. Easiest way to do this is to align your crank first, then make the belt as tight as possible by hand going towards the exhaust cam. When you get the crank and the exhaust cam lined up perfectly with no major slack running between the two, advance the intake cam by one tooth and slip the belt on the intake side. When you tighten up the tensioner and take all the slack out the intake cam should move into alignment.

I know for a fact it's your timing belt, because I end up re-doing at least 2-3 timing belts a month for people who couldn't get them lined up right, and their cars run exactly like you posted.

Re: WTF!!!!

Cool man....i gotta new timing belt today jus to be on the safe side of things
gunna put it on later......
ill kepp you dated on ----

Guy-Fast 08-27-2007 03:56 PM

Re: WTF!!!!

mark the belt and cam gears with something like a liquid pen. This will let you know when your lining things up that when your buttoning everything up you havent skipped a tooth.

Re: WTF!!!!

The ------- tensioner pulley bolt is rounded off...... >:(
I cant get the damn the loose.....am i correct that its counter clock to loosen it
Ive tried sockets vicegrips.....the damn thing is completely round and it wont come loose.....
i tried taking the driverside mount off and lowering the engine enough to hammer a bolt on there....but no go....
I cant figure it out........the car is kicking the ---- outta me

Guy-Fast 08-27-2007 10:40 PM

Re: WTF!!!!

weld another bolt to the head of the 14mm tensioner belt. Then hit it quick with the impacty and you should be good to go

Slo_crx1 08-28-2007 01:01 AM

Re: WTF!!!!

Or heat it up very slightly with a torch and try the vise grips again. I've seen tight tensioner bolts before, but never that tight.

turbozexcrxman 08-28-2007 12:43 PM

Re: WTF!!!!

I thought about welding it.......but no welder
i can JBweld a socket onto the bolt and let it dry, but i dought that will work either
i mean this bolt is so ------- tight

do you release the tension turning counter clock?
or the other way

Im thinkin about MAKING the belt fit over the gears
dont know how but its a shot

turbozexcrxman 08-28-2007 04:24 PM

Re: WTF!!!!

well i used a impact chisel to hit the bolt, missed and broke the tensioner......
I ordered a new one for a 95 dohc vtec delsol.... i have a b16a same ---- right?
well anyways im gonna break the rest of it off and maybe that'll give me just enough leverage to get the damn bolt off....
i have such a bad run of luck

turbozexcrxman 08-28-2007 07:01 PM

Re: WTF!!!!

Is it counterclockwise to loosen the bolt lookin from the crank pulley......
im starting to think the guy that owned this motor b4 me jbwleded the ------- thing in there
Ive been hittin it with an impact chisel fro 2 hours and the damn thing hasnt turned an inch
something is wrong here.....bad wrong

b4 i know it ill crack the fuking block and ruin the motor over a goddamn bolt....
WTF can i do.....im open to ALL suggestions

You need to somehow hold the crank pulley from turning. Most impact guns won't take them off with simply a small house sized air compressor.

It's normal for them to not want to come off.

yes your fine with the del sol b16a unit

Re: WTF!!!!

Im talkin about the timing belt adjustment pulley
that little faggot ass bolt that you turn to release the tension on the timing belt....
yeah it WONT come off.....the owners manual says 40ft pds to tighten the thing
this is more like 200ft pds

I dont see how someone could get it on that tight without snapping the bolt
either that or its reverse thread which on a honda i dought it

ya the tensioner which it is not reverse thread. I have never seen one that tight I hit it with my harbor freight impact and I ahve never had one not come off on the first shot

Re: WTF!!!!

yeah.....this bolt is on there so tight that with the impact it cut a slot right though the bolt.....its a mangled pice of metal now....dont even look like a bolt anymore .....this is all that keeps my car running since i got your tranny i bought

a 14mm still fits ok so i jb welded the shitt outta the bolt and put the socket on there...im gunna let it sit till 2morrow then put my wrench on it....either the bolt will snap and ill have to drill it out OR the jb weld will not hold.....
this is getting so patetic that i actually laugh at the whole ordeal........this might jus involve dropping the motor to hammer something on there to get it out

ive owned this car 4 1\2 months put a b16 in it a turbo kit a new tranny and it all come down to one ------- bolt that keeps me from driving

what luck

trust me I have been through crap like that and worse. Ya just glob the jb weld on there and try tomorrow

Re: WTF!!!!

yeah.....im trying to get done with this by october....i know this bolt HAS to come off.....
i decided to get drunk and get laid then worry about it 2morrow when i get off work......

thats really the problem......i work 7 till 6 mon-sat and i cant find time to work on it cause my g\f dont support the whole idea about my car.......i cant work on it my day off.....im sooo damn tired of this ----.....
i havent put 100 miles on the car yet since i put the motor in 3 months ago

Slo_crx1 08-29-2007 01:17 AM

Re: WTF!!!!

Worst comes to worst take it to a machine shop before you actually do break the block. I'm tellin' ya...try hitting it with a small propane/MAP gas torch and see what it does. The aluminum around it will heat up and expand out faster than the steel will, so it might just come right out when you grip down with the vice grips.

turbozexcrxman 08-29-2007 07:22 PM

Re: WTF!!!!

Yeah i borroed one today....gunna give it a shot......if that dont work then im gunna tow it to my work and have a guy do it for me

turbozexcrxman 08-29-2007 09:13 PM

Re: WTF!!!!

I GOT THAT ----------ER OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

I just took my crossmember, my turbo and header, the radiator and the pass and driverside mount off
lowerd the motor enough to get a pair of vicegrips to fit and heated the bolt a little then bam.....that fucker turned

I feel that i accomplished the most difficult task ever done to this car

worse than putting a tranny in by myself

but its done O0

Off to more turbo ----
