Winter B - Series build

ok... here we go. Winter is quickly (too quickly) coming up here in Canada. With NO plans to go turbo. I do however, want to build a nice N/A B-series motor. Lets hear some suggestions. which block, head, IM, rods (oem or aftermarket), pistons, bolts (arp i assume), everything. Let me hear your experiences and suggestions/opinions.

For a guideline though. I want to stay Obd0, or at the worst, obd1, no obd2. vtec will be a factor (im going vtec, not LS). Ecu choices, tranny, ,axles, name it all lets make this a good thread on b series buildups for NA. Hell, even assembly tips. bring it on!!

if you're not going turbo, i would go ls/vtec with a b16 head, stock ls rods shotpeened, b16 pistons for higher compression, arp head studs, gsr or type r oil and water pump, maybe some skunk 2 stage 2 cams, str intake mani., bigger t.b., this would be so much cheaper than buying a stock b18c and yeild a lot more power, and well the b16, well, we won't even go there.

B16A1...with B20A Crank...Eagle Rod's, Endyne High Comp piston..the highest you can find. port the B16 head get endyne valves...uhmmm titanium or stainles retainer and springs...higher duration cam's or sumting..aftermarket adjustable cam gears, JG or Venom intak Manifold, or port yours...bigger throttle body, or just go sidedraft. uhmm tranny??? Don't know. aftermarket Clutch....adjustable FPR, bigger injectors, bigger fuelpump...get software to ship you ECU, or go standalone and nevermind the B16 and put in a Built H22 ;D

B18a/b block resleeved to 84mm, B17a crank, custom length crower rods, 12.5:1 rollerwave pistons, ITR main caps/oil pump/h20 pump, 1st gen B16a head port/polished (endyn), bore matched to 84mm with enlarged stainless valves, ITR intake manifold, big assed cams with appropriate springs, and maybe new rockers so they don't bind with the high lift cams, OBD-1 upgrade (easy), s200...LOTS OF DYNO TIME $$$$$$$$$

result: 1.8L with R/S of ~1.73 and the ability to rev like a B16B but with more torque!

this gives me a boner....lame eh???? :P

go b18c1. i got a 01 b18c1 in 92 hatch with skunk2 ecu, manifold w/ spoon gasket, itr throttle, sk2 stage 2 cams, sk2 titanium retainers.dual springs, ferra valves, act stage3 clutch, jdm itr 4-1, gsr pump,vafc,etc...pulled a 187WHP w/ 124lbs torque. this is with the stock compression. the cams where made for at least 11.6 comp. ill see 200 to the wheels soon. i based at 149whp. the only down fall to this motor is its TOO pricey. b16 isnt bad too. its fast, cheap, and everywhere. but which ever way you go...tuning is the DAMN key to unlocking horse power. im running a skunk tuned p30 but my friends are having better luck and power with hondata s100...its not too pricey but you have to find people that KNOW how to tune hondata. stock block for me but ctr pistons are going in asap....im doing this under a budget and i dont have too much money...im a broke college student so i have to go cheap sometimes. i cant afford REAL pistons and rods. so ill make with what i can afford. im using the 01 p72 trans but the 99 civic si's b16 have great tranys. gears are tighter. also the y21 from the p30....but thats if you are staying with a hydro..not cable. hope this helps...and good luck.
