WILL VTEC WORK?
Hey guys im new to this forum
i had a question for everybody, i have a 1990 civic hatchback with a ZC motor swap, i was wondering if i could swap a vtec head on the ZC motor. its a dohc motor. |
Re: WILL VTEC WORK?
No.
There is no better D-series head than DOHC ZC, so stop ------- around with gimmicky VTEC ----. |
Re: WILL VTEC WORK?
Thanks for your help just was curious if it would work or not.
|
Re: WILL VTEC WORK?
Nope, DOHC ZC has the EW1/3/4 or D15A3 head bolt pattern, it's different. The SOHC ZC are like the 88+ D-series that are popular, and parts interchange with those.
Seriously, the ZC head ports are larger than the SOHC. You can swap in LS valves for a big valve head. Get a mild cam from anybody but JG (good grinds but good luck not getting ripped off) if you are shooting for 400+. They get a bad rep for not being VTEC but if you notice they are rated a little higher power. |

Re: WILL VTEC WORK?
Nope, because the SOHCs are a failure design unlike the ZC which was what the LS is based off of.

The dohc zc is a performer just forgotten. Very easy motor to work with and is a rev happy son of a bitch. |

Re: WILL VTEC WORK?
how does the d16a1 relate to the dohc zc? was it based on it or what? same valve cover, you know how that goes.
|
Re: WILL VTEC WORK?
i guess becuase it is a dual cam d16. and they have different valve covers btw
|
Re: WILL VTEC WORK?
If you rev it, it will VTEC

Re: WILL VTEC WORK?
i was always told to stay away from the brown top. but if they have painted valve covers the only way to tell the difference is the v.c. bolt locations
|
Re: WILL VTEC WORK?
The Brown top ZC had better cams. You could bolt the later black top or 88-89 D16A1 dist to it, or do like the cool kids and swap HF cam tower cap and dist on.
The 86-87 D16A1 (also brown top, but NEVER called that as it gets confused with ZC) was rated 112 hp, the 88-89 118hp, and the ZCs 130-135 depending on who you talked to. |
