wifes gsr needs a rebuild soon looking for opions

ok well my wifes 98 gsr is getting pretty tired finaly gas mileage is really starting to drop off on it now only getting around 25 mpg now and its using some oil. and I guess i really can't complain it's got over 300,000 on the orignal motor and trans. so I was trying to get a idea if you guys think this would run ok. I was thinking about rebuilding the gsr motor with itr pistons for a lil more snap then before. I really can't and don't want to boost this car due to it's being obd2 and being a dd for her to work. so do you guys think that a set of itrs would run ok with the stock p72 ecu on 93 all the time? and also how bad do you guys thinks the valves are now. totall rebuild of the head? or ok?

Total rebuild of the motor is the only choice. Maybe cheaper just to buy a low mileage jdm motor and sell the high mileage motor

I doubt that pistons and rings are 140 or so new bearings are around 100 and gaskets around 150 200 jdm motors are like what 1800 just my take.only costly thing is the head work possibly

Well why are you asking then just rebuild the motor then

I just rebuilt a GSR. I thought I could get away with rings/bearings/gaskets. Heh, no.
Ended up having to get everything re-machined. Crank, Cyl's (new pistons) valve grind, valve guides...
Turned out to be a lot more $$ than I anticipated, but the motor is born again virgin and still came in way cheaper than a 'low mileage' replacement.

well my real question was do you think that itr pistons with a stock p72 ecu would be a problem running on the stock map? anybody know how much it would be to have valve seats cut and the valves ground?

correct valve job/hot tank/surface/assembled

usually 250-400. When I mean correct most machine shops dont now ---- about honda angles and will ruin the seats. Need to find a shop that works on 4 cylinder import heads

itr pistons will run fine there hardly anything to worry about. People have been insstalling those pistons for 10+years now remember ecu tuning is only a couple years old

ya I didn't really think that people had been doing it that long. it's only about a point more in compression but I thought I would ask. I know I had to do a bit of tuning on my last na setup but that had ctr pistons with a ls vtec setup ended up running dsm 390cc injectors. what do you think a gsr with itr slugs will pull power wise around 190 200 crank?
