White smoke
So, here's the deal. Not my car, it's a friends car, but I can't figure out what the hell is wrong.
He's got a 91 probe GT, but it was rebuilt with the ls block, which has a different length nipple that the oil filter threads onto. Anyways, right after the first start up, he was driving it, and all of a sudden the oil pressure went down, and he shut it off right away. We got everything figured out, but now his car is blowing white smoke as hell. I know oil is usually blue smoke, so wha tthe hell could have happened? Something relating to the engine? or turbo? Any thoughts would be great. -CT |
Re:White smoke
Your friend put an ls block in a probe? There was problems with something but you fixed them. Now the car is blowing white smoke.
Basically you said the car is blowing white smoke. ??? |
Re:White smoke
Not ls honda engine, ls ford engine.
We fixed everything with the oil cooler and filter, and the car is still spewing white smoke. any ideas? (Sorry for the crazy ass post, I was kinda drunk at the time) |
Re:White smoke
sounds like a head gasket, check your coolant and see if it looks milky
|
Re:White smoke
We just rebuilt the engine, and coolant looks fine. anything else?
|
Re:White smoke
really seems like blown head gasket.. not always oil goes into coolant, sometimes coolant goes into oil... check oil ::)
|
Re:White smoke
white smoke from the exhaust pipe i presume?
|
Re:White smoke
yeah. the thing is, we haven't even boosted or driven it hard at all. I wouldn't think it would be a head gasket.
It all started when his oil filter popped off, thats why we think it's the turbo. |
Re:White smoke
Bump, any more ideas?
|
Re:White smoke
What does it smell like? have you pulled the spark plugs? how is the coolant level?
|
Re:White smoke
I still stand firm on head gasket, but ONCE my buddies car did that, POURING out white smoke fromthe muffler, and after tests and ----, it was bad gas? syphened out the tank, refilled it, problem solved, kinda odd huh?
|
Re:White smoke
Well it smells sweet, just like coolant. His coolant level is about the same, if it's gone down it's not noticable. Coolant looks fine too, no oil and not milky looking.
Did your friend's car smoke a grip? and then you just put in good gas and it was fine? hm... this was just pumped gas... I'll give that a try. headgaskets are no prob, but it's just weird that it would blow, we've barely boosted it, or even driven it that fast for that matter. Is it possibly to blow one without drivint it hard at all? |
Re:White smoke
Yeah, his car sat a few days gettin worked on, and after he got it back, it was PURING white smoke outta the tail pipe, like smoke bomb style. We checked all the ----, couldnt find anything wrong, called honda, and they said it might be the gas, so we syphoned out the tank, refilled it (pump gas) and it was back to normal. I nevr heard of that ever before until now, so it might not hurt to try.

Re:White smoke
Hmm.. that sounds exactly like what happened. We filled it up, it sat for a while, then it started smoking. the turbo is definately shot, so we need to replace that, and if that doesn't work, we'll syphon out the gas. Thanks
