What's a mini-me?

Hey guys,
My friend was thinking of swapping a b18b1 into his cx hatch which currently has a d15b8. We were thinking of doing a mini mi? Not quite sure what it is but heard its a cheaper way to go for a little more power. I know it won't be as quick as the integra motor, but the money is really as issue right now for him. We arn't going to boost it. Just a little 50 shot. What would be the best option for seeking power increases with the stock tranny. The car only has 70 hp now and I realize we wouldnt be looking at much over 100, but anything is better than 70 ;). What parts would we need and roughly how much would it be? Thanks again for your help guys.

Pete

Ever see the movie Austin Powers? ;)

Mini-me swaps are basically refering to a Vtec head being installed on a non Vtec engine/bottom end. So in your case you'd be using the d15B8 with a SOHC Vtec head like the D16Z6 head. Basically you'll need the head (duh), head gasket, timing belt, the Z6 plug wires because the d15B8's don't fit, and something to control Vtec weather it's an RPM switch, manual switch, or ECU controlled. That's a basic Mini-me setup. I like to go a little further and change the water punp while you've got the timing belt off, just so you have the reasurance that you won't have to replace it in the near future and rip it all appart again. Theres alot of good writeups on how to do them, so read up. ;)

I was going to write a whole lot but trance got it down pat, it seems. I don't think power gains would be much with the B8 head.. Don't quote me on this though, I'm not quite sure. How much power is your buddy looking to get?

As for price.. look around. You could probably do the swap for cheap. ;)

I don't think hes looking to get huge amounts of power. Just anything over 100 wil suit him. Just a little bump up from the stock 70hp mark :). Keep in mind he will have a 50 shot also. Could he reprogram his ecu and set the rpm for the vtec to kick in? Thanks again.

you should change the intake manifold also. the cx one is a joke. if you can't find a vtec distributor, you can hack yours to work.

the ecu would have to be converted to vtec and socketed to run a programmed chip.

i'm running a boosted cx/vtec now. it even ripped when n/a.

Nice, whats your definition of ripped? :)

Re:What's a mini-me?

felt more power than the z6 block. probably due to the high compression.
