I went to s10 forum i dont know ---- other then hondas dsm and some ford so i am hoping some of you have ideas. I was working on my dads truck for him when i took the water pump off behind it was a bolt that was lose, this bolt that was loose is right in the middle towards the top . I dont know what that bolt is i dont even know what that cover is i think its the timing chain cover thats its in . But im not a s10 man. Is that bolt supposed to be loose to let air in or somthing iv never seen anything like it before but i never really work on things bigger then 4 cylinders. Its a 1996 cheve S 10 4.3L V6 any ideas would really help me because the car has been starting funny before the water pump bolt fell out on him and sprayed coolant everywhere i wished he would have listen to me to taken better care of his truck.

THanks

Take the lower pulley off them remove that cover and see whats up. It looks like the cover to an oil pump to me though. And if you have antifreeze coming out of it you may have a cracked block.

Here's what you do.

1..Get a shop manuel for that truck
2..Take off the mystery cover and see if anything looks broken. (it's probably just a bad seal leaking.)
3..Go to a parts store autozone advanced what ever.Get new seals and new parts for whatever looks bad.
4..Go home and install everything in the proper order by reading and following the manuel you bought from step 1.

No ---- it's not always cool to just start flaming.

I just felt sorry for him. Reminded me of myself when I was just a kid. Lived with my mom and we drove old junk cars. I had to figure out how to keep them going on my own. Taking it to the garage was not in the budget.

well the cover with the "bolt" is the timing cover..... i have not been close enough to an American engine in quite some time. the models before yours had a metal timing cover and 96 and later had plastic.

it might be a bolt to a cam sensor http://stevensparts.com/TIMING%20COV...neral%20Motors
