What would you do with a $5000 budget
I have a 1998 Honda CX with a D16y7 engine. My budget is $5000 bux. What would you all get on this budget. I was thinking of swapping in a b16a2 for 1500 w/tranny n stuff, labor will be like 1000. Then I was just going to replace all the cams shafts, heads and other internals to after market and add headers and exhaust. I want tog et the most HP for my money though, let me know what you would do and how much HP you think I would gain.
Thanks Dan |

Where are you finding a 2nd gen B16 w/ tranny for $1500? If you're looking for the most HP for the money, I would go the H22 route. It will end up costing you roughly the same as a B16a2. Then add I/H/E and internals. You'll still have some money leftover.

lol unless your a damn good mechanic or jerry rigger don't bother an h22 in a civic. Its possible but its such a pain in the ass.
I have the same motor as you... If I had 5 grand I'd do... OBD1 conversion with a hondata reprogrammable ECU. T3/T4 hybrid turbo Those nice 550cc injectors or the 5th/6th injector (for fuel management) Put the battery in the trunk, run a water cooler where the battery used to be, with a huge ass regular intercooler in the front. Then I'd upgrade the pistons in the block, and block guard it. That could all be done for prolly aorund 4,000 if you shop strictly (maybe cheaper or more expensive depending on market conditions). With the last 1 grand I'd dump it into an LSD or upgrading suspension, from working the block and cooling it so much you could probably run 12-15 psi daily with out a worry! There are alot of options, keep in mind if you WANT to swap motors that d16y7 will still go for at least $500 if its in running condition. |

Re:What would you do with a $5000 budget
there is a h22 in a 99 civic ex here in philly.
thing hauls some serious ass. |
Re:What would you do with a $5000 budget
I dunno, I've seen the h22a attempted into an ex front end and it was just a nightmare :(

Re:What would you do with a $5000 budget
h22 requires chassiss modification, not just a bolt in kit.. i'd go b18a/b w/ turbo, or b18c w/ bolt ons
