I was serious. It's not worth much but I'd like to keep it around for whatever. It's gonna take $5 for me to give it up, that's all.

a socket the size of the pilot hole works.

personally I've aligned the clutch in my car like 10 times now...using my finger.

My Dad said that's how they did it back in the day, but you can get F'd if something goes wrong. I don't know this was before I even owned a car he told me about this.

i've used a spark plug socket with a large wire nut tucked inside the end... fit nicely into the pilot bearing the socket was teh same size as the clutch spiline hole

how so?

worst cast scenario, it isn't lined up right and the tranny wont slide onto the motor. that just means you try again.

Re: What laying around the house will center a clutch?

just go to a local tranny shop/clutch shop and ask for one. Usually they will have a big box full of them for all the clutches that they do, just find one for honda and make sure it fits your clutch (take the disc with you)... It will say Honda on the tool.

Offer to pay like 5$ for it, they will probably just telll you to take it. That is what I did and I didn't pay for it either. just be nice about it.

I always use my finger bit for some reason it's not fitting.

Re: What laying around the house will center a clutch?

ive installed probably a thousand clutches in everything from bmw to freightliner....i dont want to come across as a smart ass... but ive always made sure the tranny was in gear when i stabbed it so i could turn the output shaft and help with the spline alignment....and as far a simple tool for doing alignment.....this works when you cant go get a tool.... i have taken a broom handle and ground it down until it fit in the pilot bearing then wrapped electrical tape around the handle to fit the clutch splines... its crude but it works

Re: What laying around the house will center a clutch?

When you eyeball clutch alignment - never had a use for an alignment tool here - make sure you aren't looking at the splines from an angle. This is most likely your problem. >:D

Re: What laying around the house will center a clutch?

Just use a 10mm socket with tape wraped around the step on the socket so that it fits snug in the disk. Then just put the socket in the clutch disk and install the socket and disk in the pilot hole. Now just put the pressure plate on.

Re: What laying around the house will center a clutch?

i like to eyeball it, then bang on the tranny case with a hammer, or get the bolts threaded and pull her in :D ---- the pilot bearing :P

When you buy a new clutch kit doesn't it usually come with a cheap alignment tool? Or i know the Napa around my way sells them for like 3 bucks.

Re: What laying around the house will center a clutch?

Re: What laying around the house will center a clutch?

you can use anything small enough to fit into the pilot bearing. I've used just a socket extension many times

i didnt think anyone would answer it with the 10mm trick

it has to be a 3/8 socket and use an extension. the socket i have tappers at the end so it works great!
