i have purchased 2 cars in my life that had broken timing belts. i just put some new valves in and drove them for a long time. i guess neither of them were revving very high when it happend. that really sucks. at least your block looks good. time for some forged parts

I've owned two different Hondas that snapped the belts (A20 from an 89 accord, and a B18b1 from a 96 integra), and with both, I put on the timing belt, and was fine afterwards. I guess I was very lucky.

 

It depends on the engine type. Hondas are interference type so when the belt breaks ---- hits the fan. An escort on the other hand has a design such that it the belt breaks then the valves won't ever touch themselves or the pistons.

 

Iv broken 4 or 5 t belts so far and just poped a new one on on the side of the road and was off and going again
Iv also bought civics with broken t belt, poped a new one in and sold the cars
