i have both a 99 civic y8 bottom end an an 94 civic Z6 bottom end . i want to build one up with rods, pistons ,etc for my 96 hatch..is one better than the other?

bottom end?? hmm I don't think so

Re:what engine is better?

Neither one would have an advantage over the other..

maybe the y8 since the crankshaft would probably have less miles? but thats it.

just wondered, thought id ask before i started to tear one of them apart..i thought i heard something about the z6 having a stronger bearing brace or something. but at the y8 would be a direct swap.

Re:what engine is better?

IF the Y8 would be easier to drop in, I say go with that. What's the point of making more work for yourself? Especially for minimal or no difference.

use the 99 bottom end, using a lower year motor than your car specs is against the law in the u.s, useful info so you dont get your car impounded :-\

No, the z6 bottom end isnt stronger

Who's going to impound your car for having an older engine? You talking about at smog checks or something? I sure am glad I live in a small town and don't have to worry about all that crap. ;D

Since your planning on building the motor either one would work well.

Re:what engine is better?

So, is the Y8 and Z6 equally strong or what ? If so, I'd say the Y8 B/c a knock sensor is a great tuning tool if it can be monitored.

umm that older engine law is only in cali.

Re:what engine is better?

I'm pretty sure it's a federal law, probably only inforced in cali, but I have an 88 so it's all chedder.

Re:what engine is better?

that's a pretty gay law... I guess no 502 big block in f-body camaros...

the y8,z6,and a6 blocks are all exactly the same. all 1.6 (exept dohc zc) are the same tottaly interchangable ;D

Not true. There pistons are different, but they may all have the power limit.

Anyone know the the power limit of each block with factory interails ?

Re:what engine is better?

any d series internals will last up to like 220-240 hp, and your pushing it.

snapping a rod wouldlnt be any fun. :-\
