WHAT COUL D IT BE????

Guys I have a 88si CRX with a stock engine, last week went to start it, and nothing happened, but the lights, radio, and A/C came on. but car wouldn't completely turn over, so than we decide to jumpstart it but in order to do that we had to push the car about 5 feet, and before the jumping cables were connected I out of nowhere jumped in and put the key in, and what happened the car started right up like nothing. now it's doing it again everything comes on, we tried jumping it not will not completely turn over. My wife says it's the fuel pump, but what do you guys think it is.
keep in mind new starter, new alternator, new ignition coil

Re:WHAT COUL D IT BE????

could be the "Main Relay" (turns the fuel pump on)...

Does the car crank? (like is it cranking over fast enough to start?) is the battery weak?

How is fuel? are you getting fuel?

Spark? how well of condition is the igntion system? cap/rotor/plugs/wires etc. etc.

ABaz, it cranks normal like, the ignition coil has been replaced at 2weeks ago, along with the cap. I'm getting full power from the battery it's been charge, I have a full tank of gas. where is the ignition relay???

ok so it cranks, now how about my other questions?

Do we have spark?

Do we have fuel?

If its no spark, I would be checking the ignitor unit in the distributor.

AbaZ, how could I tell about the spark?, when I turn the key it's a strong crank, but no turn over! if there's a crank would that crank be caused by a spark? where's all the grounds for this car? hey thanks alot man right now the car is in the parking lot of a mall.

Re:WHAT COUL D IT BE????

a CRANK and TURN OVER is the same thing dude.. like the motor is spining over? the starter is engauging and the flywheel is turning etc etc right? The car just doesnt "FIRE/START UP" correct?

Get any old spark plug, or even one in the car, take one of the spark plug wires out and connect it to the plug. Set the plug & plug wire down somewhere it can ground out to (I.E the valve cover/The body etc etc) set the plug close to something that is grounded. Then have a buddy crank the car over, and look at the spark plug to see if you are getting spark. If not, and you have recently just replaced the coil, my guess is that its an ignitor. These are located inside of the distributor,

good luck,

Jeff Frank

okay one of my friends had thatlil' testing thing that he stuck inside the plug wires, and told me t start the car, and it said that I was getting a spark. so it's not he ignition coil does that help.

i'd have to agree and say its the main relay...that prob is so common here that the relays are harder to find than the elusive hf manifold... ;D
